What does this course involve?

This course may be used as a pathway qualification into community services work and is appropriate for:

  • Workers who support individuals by providing a first point of contact in a crisis situation and referral to a broad range of services
  • Workers in residential facilities and/or in community services under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans
  • Workers who provide ancillary services such as catering, cleaning, laundry, gardening and home maintenance

Certificate II in Community Services contains 11 units of competency.  Five units are core, six units are elective.  To obtain this qualification you must successfully complete all 11 units.

What are the entry requirements for this course?

This course has no pre-requisites, however to undertake this course at Brite institute you will need to successfully complete a pre‑training review, be currently working in the industry in an appropriate job role or be prepared to undertake a minimum 150 hours practical placement.  Police record checks will be required for students undertaking practical placements.

If undertaking this course as a trainee you will need to be working a minimum of 13 hours per week.

How is the training funded?

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding (eligibility criteria apply) or through Fee-for-Service arrangements.

What further study options will I have?

Once you have finished your course you may wish to consider Certificate III in Aged Care, Certificate III in Disability or Certificate III in Home and Community Care.

How long is the course?

Certificate II in Community Services usually takes from 9-12 months to complete and is delivered via a fortnightly off-the-job training timetable

Will my previous experience or study count?

Yes, Brite Institute mutually recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs.  This means you will be granted Credit Transfer (CT) for units from this certificate that have been successfully achieved through another RTO.  You will also have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  This takes into account the knowledge and skills you have already gained through previous education, formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work.

What will the course cost?

The following table is based on a sample training plan of 255 scheduled hours (see above).  Fees are indicative only.  Amenities fee has been calculated at $0.20 per enrolled hour = $51.00. Non-concession tuition fee is capped at $200.00.
