What does this course involve?

This course involves developing skills appropriate for work in clients’ homes and community settings to assist with the activities of daily living and carrying out activities related to an individualised plan.

Home and Community Care workers may assist older or frail people with their personal care needs.

Certificate III in Home and Community Care contains 14 units of competency. Nine units are core, five units are elective.  To obtain this qualification you must successfully complete all 14 units.

What are the entry requirements for this course?

To undertake this course at Brite institute you will need to successfully complete a pre‑training review, be currently working in the industry in an appropriate job role or be prepared to undertake a minimum 150 hours practical placement.  Police record checks will be required for students undertaking practical placements.

If undertaking this course as a trainee you will need to be working a minimum of 13 hours per week.

Certificate III in Home and Community Care may provide you with employment opportunities as a:

What further study options will I have?

Once you have finished your course you may wish to consider Certificate III in Aged Care or Certificate III in Disability or a Certificate IV course in Aged Care, Health (Nursing), Leisure and Health or Disability.

How long is the course?

Certificate III in Home and Community Care usually takes approximately 9-12 months to complete and is delivered via a fortnightly off-the-job training timetable.

Will my previous experience or study count?

Yes, Brite Institute mutually recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs.  This means you will be granted Credit Transfer (CT) for units from this certificate that have been successfully achieved through another RTO.  You will also have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  This takes into account the knowledge and skills you have already gained through previous education, formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work.

What will the course cost?

The following table is based on a sample training plan of 460 scheduled hours (see above).  Fees are indicative only.  Fee total includes a capped amenities fee of $70.00. Non-concession tuition fee has been capped at $300.00.
