What does this course involve?
This course involves developing the skills to work effectively in the community and/or residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans.
Workers undertaking this qualification would:
- Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people with a disability
- Carry out activities related to an individualised plan
- Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers
Certificate III in Disability contains 14 units of competency. Nine units are core, five units are elective units. To obtain this qualification you must successfully complete all 14 units.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
This course has no pre-requisites, however to undertake this course at Brite institute you will need to successfully complete a pre-training review, be currently working in the industry in an appropriate job role or be prepared to undertake a minimum 150 hours practical placement. Police record checks will be required for students undertaking practical placements.
If undertaking this course as a trainee you will need to be working a minimum of 13 hours per week.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding (eligibility criteria apply) or through Fee-for-Service arrangements.
What further study options will I have?
Once you have finished your course you may wish to consider Certificate III in Aged Care, Certificate III in Home and Community Care or a Certificate IV course such as Certificate IV in Disability, Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) or Certificate IV in Leisure and Health.
How long is the course?
Certificate III in Disability usually takes from 6-12 months to complete and is delivered via a fortnightly off-the-job training timetable.

Will my previous experience or study count?
Yes, Brite Institute mutually recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs. This means you will be granted Credit Transfer (CT) for units from this certificate that have been successfully achieved through another RTO. You will also have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This takes into account the knowledge and skills you have already gained through previous education, formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work.
