What does this course involve?
This course involves developing the skills required to provide physical and social support to elderly individuals in residential facilities. This support is provided under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans.
Work may include training and support to promote independence and community participation, which may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs. These workers:
- Carry out activities related to maintaining an individual’s well being through personal care and/or other activities of living
- May provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people
- Report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers
- May be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.
Certificate IV in Aged Care contains 15 units of competency. Ten units are core, five units are elective. To obtain this qualification you must successfully complete all 15 units.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
This course has 6 pre-requisite units from CHC30208 Certificate III in Aged Care.
To undertake this course at Brite institute you will also need to successfully complete a pre-training review, be currently working in the industry in an appropriate job role or be prepared to undertake a minimum 150 hours practical placement. Police record checks will be required for students undertaking practical placements.
If undertaking this course as a trainee you will need to be working a minimum of 13 hours per week.

What further study options will I have?
Once you have finished your course you may wish to consider enrolling in other community services qualifications such as Certificate III in Disability or Certificate III in Home and Community Care.
You may also wish to consider Certificate IV courses in Leisure and Health, Disability or Health (Nursing).
How long is the course?
Certificate IV in Aged Care usually takes up to 12 months to complete and is delivered via a fortnightly off-the-job training timetable.

Will my previous experience or study count?
Yes, Brite Institute mutually recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs. This means you will be granted Credit Transfer (CT) for units from this certificate that have been successfully achieved through another RTO. You will also have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This takes into account the knowledge and skills you have already gained through previous education, formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work
