What does this course involve?
Certificate IV in Disability is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to work within the disability services sector including work in residential group homes, training resource centres, day respite centres and open employment services, other community settings and clients’ homes.
These workers:
- Apply knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience to provide training and support to people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self reliance and community participation.
- Report to service managers and may liaise with health professionals and other service agencies
- May work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of lower classified workers.
Certificate IV in Disability contains 15 units of competency. Ten units are core, five units are elective. To obtain this qualification you must successfully complete all 15 units.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
This course has no pre-requisites, however to undertake this course at Brite institute you will need to successfully complete a pre‑training review, be currently working in the industry in an appropriate job role or be prepared to undertake a minimum 150 hours practical placement. Police record checks will be required for students undertaking practical placements.
If undertaking this course as a trainee you will need to be working a minimum of 13 hours per week.

Once you have finished your course you may wish to consider Certificate IV in Health (Nursing), Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, Certificate IV in Aged Care or a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Disability.
How long is the course?
Certificate IV in Disability usually takes up to 12 months to complete and is delivered via a fortnightly off-the-job training timetable.

Will my previous experience or study count?
Yes, Brite Institute mutually recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs. This means you will be granted Credit Transfer (CT) for units from this certificate that have been successfully achieved through another RTO. You will also have the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This takes into account the knowledge and skills you have already gained through previous education, formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work.
