Fees and charges

Brite Institute levies fees and charges in line with the Skills Victoria fees and charges guidelines. Fees and charges are applied in a manner that upholds the principles of access and equity. Our financial and management procedures protect fees paid in advance.

 

Non-Government Funded Courses

Fees for Non-Government Funded Courses (Fee For Service)

Brite Institute fee for service courses are run on a commercial basis and therefore do not attract Government funding or concessions.  Students are encouraged to pay the full course fee at the time of enrolment, however payment plans are available.

 

Government Funded Courses

There are three fees associated with Government funded courses at Brite Institute:

1.      Tuition fees

2.      Amenities fee

3.      Materials fees and charges (i.e. Learning guides)

 

GST will be charged where applicable.

 

New fee schedule for Government Funded Courses from July 1 to December 2009*

The new fee structure will distinguish between courses undertaken at different levels for different purposes.  For training undertaken in 2010 new hourly rates and yearly maximums and minimums will apply.

 

Foundation level courses assist people to develop the skills they need in literacy, numeracy, language, self management and job-readiness. People undertaking these courses may have left school before completing year 12, and may have missed out on a the base level learning needed for further training.

 

Tuition fees for Foundation level courses will be:

2009 - Up to $1.08 per hour. The minimum fee will be $50.00 and the maximum will be $250.00.

2010 - Up to $1.08 per hour. The minimum fee will be $50.00 and the maximum will be $500.00.

 

Skills creation courses, at Certificate I and II level are for people who wish to undertake basic training in an industry area, either because they need to use the relevant skills immediately in the workplace, or because they wish to prepare for entry to work in that industry.

 

Tuition fees for Skills Creation level courses will be:

2009 - Up to $1.37 per hour. The minimum fee will be $105.00 and the maximum will be $438.00.

2010 - Up to $1.40 per hour. The minimum fee will be $105.00 and the maximum will be $875.00.

 

Apprenticeships and Traineeships courses, at any Certificate level, are for people who are undertaking training under a training contract registered within the Australian Apprenticeship and Traineeship Program.

 

Tuition fees for Apprenticeships and Traineeships level courses will be:

2009 - Up to $1.37 per hour. The minimum fee will be $57.00 and the maximum will be $452.00.

2010 - Up to $1.37 per hour. The minimum fee will be $57.00 and the maximum will be $903.00.

 

Skills building courses, at Certificate III and IV level are for people who want to enter a skilled trade or practice an occupation that calls for skills and knowledge beyond the basic level. Qualifications at this level require significant commitment by learners and may provide entry to licensed or otherwise regulated skilled occupations.

 

Tuition fees for Skills Building level courses will be:

2009 - Up to $1.41 per hour. The minimum fee will be $120.00 and the maximum will be $500.00.

2010 - Up to $1.62 per hour. The minimum fee will be $120.00 and the maximum will be $1000.00.

 

Skills deepening courses are at Diploma and Advanced Diploma level. Brite Institute is not currently delivering courses in this category.

 

*The new fee schedule will not apply to those students already enrolled and undertaking their courses before July 2009. These students will still continue to pay fees according to the existing fee schedule, subject to indexation, and will continue to have access to the current concessions, until they complete their courses or otherwise end their enrolments.

Amenities fees

Amenities fees are calculated at 10 cents per nominal hour of enrolment.

Students enrolled in Skills Building ACFE funded training are charged a set amenities fee of $30.00

 

Brite Institute may remove or reduce amenities fees as it sees fit.

 

Training Materials

Learning guides are required for most units.  Community Services and Business Services learning guides are $15.00 (inc. GST) plus $4.00 (inc. GST) postage & handling each.  Brite Institute can organise your order or you can purchase your learning guides directly from the resource provider.  Please speak to administration if you wish to do this.  Administration will provide you with contact details.

 

Concessions for Government Funded Courses

Concessions on tuition fees are available for government funded training places in all course categories except Skills Deepening.

 

The fee concession is available to people in the following groups:

1.      Commonwealth Health Care Card holders, and their dependants

2.      Pensioner Concession Card holders, and their dependants

3.      Veteran’s Gold Card holders

 

To receive a concession, the person enrolling must provide the card as evidence.  A copy of the card will be taken and kept on file as evidence.

 

Indigenous students

Indigenous students pay only the minimum or concession tuition fee for all courses, including courses in the Skills Deepening category.

 

Extreme hardship

Any person who is able to demonstrate extreme hardship may apply to the Executive Officer, through the Training Administrator, for a fee exemption or concession on the tuition fee and the amenities fee.

 

If fees are being paid by the Australian Government

If the Australian Government, for example a Job Services Australia provider, is funding your enrolment, the concession fee is not available.

 

Other Charges

Certificate or Statement of Attainment Replacement prints will be charged $50.00 per request Statement of results.

 

Unpaid Fees

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all fees are paid, regardless of who has assumed responsibility for paying the fees. Students with outstanding fees will not be allowed to re-enrol, receive statements of attainment or certificates.

 

Fee Payment Options

Payment can be made via cash, cheque, money orders, credit cards (in person & over the phone), EFTPOS or by direct credit into Brite Institute's bank account.

 

If an employer or third party is paying student fees, written authorisation from that party must be provided.  Employers or third parties will not be invoiced without a letter of authority.

What is the refund policy?

1.            If a student withdraws, by written notice, from government-funded training or further education at any time up until 4 weeks after the scheduled commencement date of classes Brite Institute will refund the tuition contribution paid in respect of the government-funded training or further education less the minimum tuition contribution and any other fees and charges paid by or on behalf of the student.

 

2.            If a student withdraws, by written notice, from government-funded training or further education at any time up until 4 weeks after the scheduled commencement date of classes for the purposes of taking up a place at another educational institution, Brite Institute will refund the full tuition contribution and any other fees and charges paid by or on behalf of the student.

 

3.            If government-funded training or further education is cancelled by Brite Institute at any time during the period of the student's enrolment, Brite Institute will refund the full tuition contribution and a pro-rata portion of any amenities fees or training materials fees which have not been used in the training or further education prior to the date of cancellation.

 

4.            For the purposes of the above points, if a student withdraws from only part of their enrolment in government-funded training or further education, Brite Institute will only refund the portion of the tuition contribution and fees for amenities and training materials applicable to that part of the training or further education.

 

5.            Brite Institute may grant refunds in other circumstances or of greater amounts as it sees fit.
